About Me

My name is Laura.  I also go by LT and/or Lo Lo. I was born and raised in southeastern Oklahoma and will always call Oklahoma home. I mean, it’s right there in the name!

I’m the proud daughter of two AMAZING parents, both engineers.  One, my dad, is a semi-retired Mechanical/Industrial Engineer.  The other, my mom, is a “retired” stay-at-home mother.  But, a domestic engineer never really retires, does she?

Growing up, I didn’t realize the value of the lessons they never told me I was learning. Now, as a full-fledged adult (and home owner), I understand just how lucky I was am to be their daughter.  This Okie has many passions and hobbies, and most of them are attributable to at least one of my parents.  From my mother, I get my love of hosting, entertaining, decorating, arranging flowers, cooking, appreciation of etiquette, and my attempts at sewing.  My father gave me a passion for the outdoors, music, general handiness, tools (and how to use them properly), golf (and other sports), and crossword puzzles.

I have an older brother who underestimates his patience.  As a child, I wanted to be just like him.  And, that wouldn’t be annoying at all, right?!  But, he was (mostly) a great big brother.  One of my favorite things, as a kid, was getting a new mixed tape from him. He was my first source of good music!

My husband and I now live in Texas, so I refer to myself as an Okxan (you  know, a displaced Okie in Texas). He works in education, helping students determine if his university is a mutually advantageous fit and getting them oriented if and when they arrive. He’s a major goofball with a stubborn streak and one of the most loyal and kindest people I’ve ever met. Once he loves something, he loves it for life. Just try to get him to switch brands on any product, ever!

Even though I’m in my thirties, I’m still figuring out exactly who I am.  It’s a constantly evolving thing, you see.  As I try new things, I learn new skills and find new favorites. But, I believe that some things will always remain: the week goes better when you start it at church, my family & friends are THE best a girl can have, travel is good for the soul, wit is sexy, laughter is medicine, silliness should not be outgrown, and you can find joy anywhere you look.
